Passing the buck…or blog…

Introductions:

Heyo, I’m Lendsey! Writing introductions about yourself is so awkward, right? I’m a fellow creative — I make all kinds of things, like jewelry, art, and writing fantasy, etc. I love expressing myself in as many creative ways as I can, and I’m always exploring new paths. Every project takes me on a little journey, and I enjoy discovering bits of myself along the way.

One creative pursuit I’m just diving into is this blog. I’m new here, but I’ve spent the last year watching Matthew work his magic at gigs, and I’ve been hearing stories about them for even longer — two years and counting! I decided to help out in the way I know best: by capturing and sharing the moments from the nights he does sound for bands. If you know him, you know he’s a man of many words… not really (lol). So I’m stepping in to help fill that gap.

We make a pretty good team. I help unload the car and set up where I can, but honestly? That guy is just magic. He makes all this incredible sound possible, making sure everything is crisp. He gives the audience the best experience and the bands the best shot at truly being heard. Watching it all come together is something special, and I’m excited to share that journey with you here.

Revolver-

Anyway, enough about me—let’s talk about this weekend. Friday night, we headed out to Froggies to catch Revolver. And isn’t that why we’re here? To talk about the band? That’s right. They absolutely crushed it. Revolver poured their talent on that stage, showing everyone just how good they really are. Mike is the lead singer and guitarist, Greg is on rhythm guitar, Rich is on bass, and Chris is on drums.

Note from Pi: This show was Jamie Peterson’s birthday bash and boy was it a celebration. I only caught Revolver as there was a lot going on, but everyone had a blast. Mike’s vocals are strong and reminiscent of some of the elder rock gods we’ve been jamming to for decades. They are tight, energetic, and are one helluva great group of guys. They just keep getting better. Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of their new website! It’s coming soon to an interweb near you!

TDP

On Saturday evening, Twenty Dollar Prophets played a private event, and they rocked the stage. I’ve seen TDP a few times now, tagging along with Matthew, and I think I’ve officially picked a few favorites from their setlist. Between songs, the band kept things lively with playful banter and shout outs to the crowd, making people laugh or get up and dance. At one point, Johnny Carnage kicked off a spontaneous dance competition, cueing up a goofy tune that had everyone grooving and grinning.

If you don’t know who Twenty Dollar Prophets is, Saturday’s show featured Chris Gonzales on vocals and lead guitar, Andrew English on guitar, Dylan Stavish on bass, and Jonny Carnage on drums. And behind the scenes, Matthew ran the sound, making sure everything the band brought to the stage came through loud, clear, and full of energy.

The night wrapped up with an encore—a cover of Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine. That one always gets the crowd moving, and Saturday was no exception. Everyone was up and dancing in front of the stage. TDP absolutely kills it with that song—it’s one of my favorite covers they do.

Notes from the Art Cave:

Greetings friends! Pi here with an update. While I may have passed the blog torch to Len, I’m still working hard on about a billion other blackhat things. I effectively wear too many damn hats and need to share a few with others. We have a few things going on behind the scenes right now that might be of interest to y’all though! We are now offering website and EPK design services. For an amazingly reasonable annual fee you can have a shiny new website too! Features include things like: Photo galleries, a bio page, videos, sitewide music player, EPK page, gig calendar, newsletter, and even a tip jar or online merch shop. If you’re ready to take your band to the next level, check out our services page or reach out to Matt or myself from the contact page today! You can even email me directly with questions at: kendra@bhmusic.net. Below is a sneak peek at what I’ve been building for Revolver.

Now that I’m done shamelessly plugging business, I can say I got to have a lil fun at the Revolver show Friday. I went to snap a couple pics for their….you guessed it… shiny new website that should be launching in the next week or two. It’s been fun experimenting with a new service and I’m stoked to be offering this new shiny thing for our clients and their fans. Want to manage your site yourself? You totally can, but why do that when blackhat can do it for you?

I also have some artwork on the way for the next MaDu release which will happen as soon as I get around to finishing the piece I bet. We’ve been waiting for artwork for a while and sometimes people just get too damn busy to think about details like that. It’s why I get paid to do this stuff isn’t it?

Lastly, but certainly not least, was a quick mini shoot with Doug Strange for his next EP. It involved a skull and a martini glass of sorts. It was a fun, albeit somewhat unplanned and last minute shoot. We were able to squeeze it in because I happened to arrive early and have a skull and my camera handy when I popped in to talk business last Friday. Sometimes things just work out nicely eh? Don’t worry about the skull kids, it’s 3D printed.

That’s all we’ve got for you this week my little bronies. Check back soon for another issue of the blackhat buzz, we’ve got lots more coming! And always remember kids, any machine can be a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.
