What a rollercoaster life can be sometimes. But, I am here writing for you all once again now that I’ve had a moment to process all the events of the last few weeks.
Many of you don’t know me personally, nor the Aunt of mine that passed away a week ago. I will not bore you with too many sappy details, but I will say this of her; she LOVED music. She loved concerts and shows and fun. She didn’t care what anyone thought and lived her life to the fullest of her abilities. I have always admired her for her fierce, fearless, look-at-me attitude as it was not something I ever could achieve within myself. So for her, I will be as fearless and sure of myself as I can and try to live a little less terrified of the opinions of others that don’t concern me. Also, I will push my blackhat projects and freelance art projects with renewed vigor in your honor. Thank you for the laughs, the red hair, and the fun shopping trips we used to go on. You will truly be missed, Bideo.
We also mourn with our friends as two others in our circle lost family members within 24 hours of one another. We are all heartbroken to say the least. I have no words to convey my sincerest sympathies to these friends, but we are with you and if you need us, you know who to call.
There have been so many turbulent situations surrounding us all for so long that I’m going to throw out some positive vibes and hope that things turn around for everyone soon. I know the greater challenges of cultural unrest and global socio-political climates being what they are, and I don’t expect overnight solutions, but we have to do better as a society. We CAN do better. We WILL do better. That being said, business:
SHOWS:
Rhey did a show on May 24th at Frogees. Rad Fest 6. She had this to say:
“This past weekend we were back at Frogees Bar for Rad Fest 6 with Paint the Town Rad! Blackstar kicked off the night with a killer set as per usual, and Beowülf ended the night on a high note despite getting stuck in traffic. We all know how the 15 freeway can be especially at night. In between them we had Lost Issue, Western Conference and of course, Paint the Town Rad! All of which put on a great performance and kept the energy high the whole night. Also having all of the proper microphones this time helped out a LOT on my end but that’s what we do at Blackhat. We make it work even if we have to “hack” something together. Remember to keep an eye out for us at our upcoming shows and come say hi!’
Matt did sound management for One Drop Redemption again, this time in the north. I don’t have any pics or deets for you this time, but it was business as usual.
The bookings have been a bit more sporadic these last few weeks with a few shows getting canceled last minute. This was totally ok considering the unexpected emergency trip to the desert for me to see family.
ART:
I did, however, manage a little bit of art stuff. I made up a flyer for Andrew English’s solo debut show. I dreamed up a design for some tie dye one-off, super special edition merch and a fancy table runner for Rizz and Andrew for the show/raffle/etc.

Aside from that I have only been working on sewing projects which don’t exactly relate to the studio aside from who I am making them for. Things have been slow, but I haven’t actually pursued much in the way of work the last few weeks. I’m pretty spent at the moment, but I’m going to relax this weekend with the family and get back to work the following week. I will be making more trips to the studio in the coming weeks/months due to my aunt’s passing, but as I mentioned in our Facebook post, that will just get you folks some better content. It’s always more fun when I am actually there to witness what I’m writing about.
PODCAST:
Episode one is roughly edited and awaiting a group listen. Episode two’s edits are underway and we are planning the next session. I know it’s been a lot of talk and little to actually enjoy yet, but I promise we will be releasing something in the next few months. Life has been crazy for all of us these last few weeks. Please bear with us while we get our collective shit together so we can bring you the best content possible. We are really excited about the pod and are taking care to make sure we have a quality product to release to you. This is a new adventure for us and we’ve experienced hiccups as any new project does.
Thank you all for your continued support and your patience with the spotty blogs lately. We are a small group and only one of us manages all of this online stuff. I am back in business and ready to rock. Here’s to getting off the rollercoaster for a bit.
Much love.
