05/15/2024
Well, here I went thinking I’d caught up on blogs and was going to do better about staying on top of things… then I missed another week. I have an excuse, albeit a somewhat bogus one, but it’s a good story I swear!
Shows:
05/03/2024 Twenty Dollar Prophets did Reggae Night at Frogee’s in Apple Valley. G Hippy and Johnny Carnage were also on the bill that evening. Rhey Was there for a bit and gave me some insight into the evening’s events. I also heard someone called a dance off?
‘Working with Twenty Dollar Prophets is always a blast and Reggae Night was nothing short of that. With life hitting everyone full force and schedules becoming more and more full, it was awesome to have one night to forget about everything going on outside of work and just be present with friends. The room was filled with smiling faces and positive energy. Chris stated, “Due to life, schedules, and things, I’m not sure when we will be playing at Frogees again….this place has always been our home stage. I will cherish tonight on stage and hold it near to my heart.” And with that being said, I’m hoping we were able to make it a good one for them. Hopefully things start to smooth out for the guys so we can see them back on stage bringing the house down sooner rather than later.”

05/04/2024 Matt running sound management for One Drop Redemption at what appeared to be a horse competition at Del Mar Horse Park. The show went about as smoothly as one can expect in a big outdoor venue. I didn’t get any outstanding comments from Matt about the gig other than “Horses are terrifying creatures.” Not sure if he meant it, or if he’s just quoting a Skyrim NPC, but the sentiment is real. Horse jokes abound of course as even the singer was quoted saying “this whole gig has been horsing around.” At least none of them stole any lemons… *ba dum tissssss* terrible joke, I’ll see myself out shortly.

Art:
I have been in talks with an artist or two about upcoming projects, but have not really been picking up much in the way of business these last few weeks. It’s likely entirely because I have not sought any. It’s true that work is available if I look for it, but I had other plans last weekend. The homies over at English Entertainment, aka our friends Andrew and Rizz, invited us to go to the Renaissance Faire in Irwindale, CA. Now, I haven’t been to this Faire in a number of years, but I KNOW it’s way more fun when you dress up. So that’s what I spent so much time doing between the 26th and the 10th. The breadth of my hobbies is seemingly incalculable at this point and I got VERY overzealous. If I’m going, I’m doing it right. So I started with a bodice and underdress that are *old*, spent around $30 on some remnant fabric and trimmings, and made a moss witch ‘masterpiece’ in about 6 days. I don’t want to get into my ADHD dragon’s horde of craft supplies, but I didn’t even really NEED to buy what I did. It literally just tied it all up in a cohesive ribboned package that worked out well for the day.

BUT WHAT HAPPENED AT FAIRE?!?!
Well, if you don’t know the atmosphere at renaissance faires let’s just say it can be family friendly, but there’s a lot of very adventurous souls who enjoy the raunchier side of things. We, well we were the latter. If you want some good tavern songs check out the Poxy Boggards. They were a lot of fun to see…twice. The mead was delightful, the food abundant, and there were lots of lovely people and things to see. I got to joke with a few Trekkies about disobeying the Prime Directive, trade trinkets will all manner of fae, vagabond, and pirate….(Thanks for the dycks Rizz I’m still laughing every time I see mine) It was one helluva business trip. Yeah, we talked about music/podcast/merch stuff guys. It wasn’t all debauchery and mead. (shhh) But I think I may have ended up with a new wife/girlfriend, I definitely got propositioned by an alleged color-blind scallywag, learned that medieval Jedi were packin’ and according to Andrew literally everything was “unequivocally fucking bussing”. It was a fun day to say the least. Also, if you need merch, Rizz is the bizz. Good quality, fast turn around…remember English Entertainment kids.

Upcoming:
I will be popping into a Humble Crumb show at 18 Taps in Apple Valley this Friday night. Catch me if you can, I don’t actually go to shows much and I’d love to chat about blackhat and the podcast. Mike Storm is also on the bill and is advertising cheesesteaks and bacon dogs… they had me at cheese. You know where to find me.
What is going on with us this next week? No shows that we are running sound at, no recording sessions on the books this next week, BUT…. We are set to do our first podcast recording this upcoming Saturday at Happy Trails Ranch. Obviously it won’t be released right away. We will still need to edit and get another session or two in the bag before we can actually start sending these out into the ether. Scheduling between the group of us for recording sessions and meetings can get a little challenging with everyone’s day jobs, families, and other artistic projects, but everything is well in hand and we are ready to make it happen. There’s a killer line-up of topics and willing guests already, but we also would love to know what YOU want to know about music, art, songwriting, recording. ANYTHING!! Drop a comment here, or hit us up on Facebook or Instagram.
If you haven’t subscribed to the blog yet or followed us on social media…well why not? Go do it so you won’t miss out on upcoming shows and events, blogs, podcast release dates, and other tasty exclusives. Join the collective. We have punch and pie.
