Sorry for the silent weeks. I’ve been enjoying the nice weather, doing a ton more plotting for the podcast and got myself a nice respiratory illness. Since we are a small operation that means if I am too sick to write the blog/posts/etc, there’s no one else available to step in and publish it for me. Good news is that it looks like we have a date scheduled to record episode one of the podcast, a solid name picked out, and we are ready to roll. I’m excited to see what comes from that project. Maybe nothing, maybe something…either way, we plan to enjoy the process and we hope you like what comes out. We had a bit going on over the last few weeks so bare with me as I break as much down as I can.
Da Studio:
It’s been a while since we’ve had a recording session to talk about, but Troy Story Band was back at it a couple weeks ago Sunday, recording some new vocal tracks for a new project that I actually don’t know the name of yet. I reached out to Troy and he had this to say:
“Some thoughts on the last studio session:
We went in as usual with a game plan in mind (I tend to get overzealous about how much we’re able to get done in a relatively short amount of time), and we actually stuck to it fairly well. Our mission was to finish lead and backup vocals for the remaining songs on the second Troy Story Band EP. I’m always impressed by how Matt is able to make everything he does behind the console look natural – no matter how much I learn, I will always have a certain loathing towards technology, so I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone with the patience and understanding required to work with complex machines. I was also blown away again by the performances we got out of Patricia Strong. There’s definitely moments from this next batch of songs that have resulted in me having some very visceral reactions (in a good way). Speaking from a biased point of view, it’s very good stuff.”
I haven’t gotten to hear the results of the session in question yet, but I am really looking forward to giving it a listen next time I pass through town.
SHOWbiZ:
There were a couple shows over the last few weekends to mention. On 4/20 the Twenty Dollar Prophets rocked the grand opening of Consbeeracy Brewing with Rhey on the board, while Matt went to Soboba casino with One Drop Redemption on a sound management basis. On Friday 4/26 Matt ran sound for the JWH Entertainment show Without Limits. On 4/27, Matt popped over to the Trouble Makers car show to run sound for Mad Marge. I talked to Rhey, JB, and a few others about their shows.

JB had this to say:
“The show went amazing! We had a decent turn out and had some amazing toys and sanitation gear donated for the children! When I arrived at the school with the donations , I left the toys out without saying anything and within 20 minutes the kids were obsessed with said toys that were donated. I’m so eternally grateful for everyone that supported this event! Big shout out to Frogee’s bar and grill for letting us always take over their wonderful place. Also big shout out to all the bands and artists: new clouds over everything , visionary soul one, lyonz, g8wayy , order of the fallen stars, emcee square, and humble crumb for crushing it! As well shoutout to Matt on sound!

JWH (just work here entertainment) has and will always do something themed with their show. So since it was April (autism awareness month) we did something alongside something I do for my everyday work. But other shows upcoming may include celebrating birthdays, holidays, or even other benefit shows such as food drives.
As a team we strive to put people first whether it’s their artists/bands that partner with us, rather than try and take all the money like most labels. As a company we provide photography and videography. Music creation, recording, producing and marketing artists music with different various packages being offered. Alongside run shows that have been located in Apple valley and Tehachapi’s California.”
The Consbeeracy 4/20 show sounded like a good time. Lots of vendors, good food, cold beer. From the sound of things the outdoor event was hotter than your preferred circle of hell, so a little shade and a cold drink went a long way in making this a memorable grand opening celebration with TDP and friends. On a technical note for this show; outdoor events don’t always go as planned. There are tons of things that can go wrong, lots of moving parts and logistical challenges, and a whole lot of people setting up at once. Things at this show got off to a slow start as our load-in was pushed back by vendor load-in. The set-up couldn’t even start until the show was supposed to begin. Set-up and tear-down of live sound gear takes a bit longer than some folks may estimate. As this was a grand opening, and it’s possible that these folks haven’t dealt with a setup like this before. It’s completely understandable that our required load-in time may have been underestimated by those organizing things. On top of the late scramble, the heat caused a bit of trouble with some of the gear. Once everything got squared away the show went off as expected given the line-up. TDP never disappoints. They have one more show at Frogee’s tonight that you really shouldn’t miss.
ART:
I haven’t been working on much in the way of studio related art, but the podcast now has an official name and marketing materials, artwork, and other fun stuff is on the docket for the next few weeks. In case you missed the final versions of the raffle drawings, here ya go:

That is all for this week. My fingers are tired, and I have a recording session to plan. If you have a question for us that you would like answered on our podcast, please comment below, or hit us up on our socials! We want to hear from you!
Until next time kids…
