What’s up fellow blackhats?! Here we are, back again with another issue of the blackhat Buzz. Once again, we didn’t do much this week. January tends to be a super slow month for everyone still reeling from the holidays. We didn’t run sound at any shows last weekend, but a few of our artist friends still had shows going on. Unfortunately, everyone at blackhat does so much of this on the regular that we didn’t even feel up to actually going out to support anyone else this weekend. We are tired, friends. Matt got some much needed rest, we didn’t bother Rhey with any business nonsense, and I…well I actually did a bit of work.
There’s a pre-Valentine’s Day show coming up on February 10th at Frogee’s with some great talent performing. Go check it out. I put the flier together, so fancy.

In other news, the more exciting part of my weekend involved a drive out to Apple Valley. The wonderful Ian Seabolt invited me to participate in working with him and Doug on his new songs. I got to listen to FIVE new songs on Friday night. I heard a couple of them a few weeks ago at another session, but this was the first time that I got to hear the whole list. Let me tell you, I loved his older stuff, but these new ones… That session firmly cemented for me that Ian is really something special. His music is raw, emotional, and catchy. I’m still reeling from the experience. I felt honored to have been included on his Hope Street EP, and now that I’ve gotten to hear this new stuff I’m really excited to see what he plans to do with it. I have some idea of his intentions, but you folks will just have to follow along and find out.
Aside from doing actual music stuff, we mostly just hung out at the ranch with the man himself, Peter (of Big Bear Bar & Grill among other things), listening to music, talking about our podcast ideas, and absolutely laughing our asses off. It was a great night. I almost snapped a hilarious picture of Peter with some boxer briefs on his head, but I was too busy laughing at his explanation to actually grab my phone. (Yes, he claimed they were clean…smh) Thank you all for a memorable evening.
“yes, I am wearing underwear on my head! Doug Strange is my roommate and I’m just trying to get strange!”

Next weekend Matt has a show in Hermosa Beach with One Drop Redemption, but we won’t have a local show until the following weekend. Sadly, nothing else terribly interesting is happening for a bit. Talks of the blackhat podcast and its development are well underway. It’s looking like y’all are going to get to listen to Doug and I BS with a bunch of killer musicians and talk about all sorts of industry insights, gear, shows, and more…mostly though it will probably just be a bunch of us acting like fools for your enjoyment. I will keep you posted friends. That’s all this week friends. Thanks for stopping by again. We hope to see you all on the 10th of February at Frogee’s for the Fools & Lovers pre-Valentine’s Day show!
