What Day is it Again?

12/14/23

Hey Howdy Hey Homies! I’m back with yet another week of the blackhat buzz. Unlike last week, we didn’t really have much in the way of shows this time around. We did have our weekly open mic with Rhey and Chris on Tuesday. It was a fun night, but being so close to the holidays folks aren’t really going out much at the moment. I heard it was a pretty slow, quiet night and not a lot of folks showed up this time. Only Ian Seabolt, Marty Calderon, and Lyonz performed this week. They ended the night a little early, but still had fun hanging out and listening to the live music.

In other news, MaDu has a new single coming out on 12/26/23. It’s called Festival Metal. It’s coming out just in time for y’all to play it at your new year’s gatherings. Do it. You know you want to. Would you kindly give it a play or three? (If you happen to get that reference we should be friends.) Enjoy the fun potato cover art, I only had a few hours to whip it out. #indielabellife

In other, other news, I get to do a preview of one of Johnny Carnage’s new songs off of Sad Truck. I was going to try to get to it this week, but I want to give it a proper listen this weekend when I’m in town for music madness where I will have access to better speakers. The quick listen I did give it on my phone though?. It’s a good song and you can tell he was really feeling the emotion behind his words. I’m really excited to give this album a listen when it’s all done. Can’t wait to listen to this song with the guys at blackhat this weekend.

We don’t have any shows booked this weekend either (weird right?) so our plan is to knock out a mini photoshoot for Ocho Gatos with myself, Matt, and Doug with Rhey on the camera, and then rewrite some lyrics to another song on the blues project. It will be nice to actually get that one off the list after so many years. It feels like it’s been growing with me as an artist. We started working on it before I was even remotely comfortable singing in front of other humans. I feel I’ve come quite a long way since 2019. For better or worse, these last few years have challenged me and it appears that I’m finally rising above the rollercoaster and seeing some positive outcomes from my hard work. The lesson folks? Persevere. Nothing is ever “perfect” but good things will happen when you can put in the work. It isn’t easy, but we must keep truckin’…the show must go on…etc. We plan to release the first single early next year and I hope we can finish another one soon after that. Meow Meow is a fun little treat and I’d love to be able to release that one next. For now, I’ll do silly commissions and fun art trades through the holidays. Next week’s blog is actually due out on my birthday. Here’s to my 39th rotation around the sun with all of you. I will try to be sure to finish it up early since I appear to have forgotten what day it was already…like four times.
