UPDATE: Like a jerk I forgot about an ENTIRE show! What a punk. Ok, so last Friday Matt did a show at Frogee’s with Desadera and a few other groups including our up-and-coming rock stars Heavily Discounted. I heard from Lady B that they have been writing their own original songs and performed one of them live at this show for the first time. The song is called Pieces and I highly recommend catching them live. They are really awesome for being so new to the scene. I’ve been around music my whole life and can be rather opinionated when it comes to covers and live music performance, and let me tell you, these guys are a joy to watch EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I couldn’t even hate on their Green day cover because they bloody KILL it every time. Keep rocking HD, you’ve got a helluva lot of friends behind you.

Back to Desadera, This show was a special one for them as they celebrated the release of their new single Cold Sweat featuring Taylor Barber from Left to Suffer. You can find Desadera and Left to Suffer on social media and Spotify. If you’re into metal, these are two bands you DO NOT want to miss. I’m not even remotely a metalhead and I can get down to Desa. I heard it was a killer show, and I’m bummed as always that I can’t actively attend more of these events. We love supporting our immensely talented friends, so please go check out all these groups when you’ve got the time. You won’t be disappointed. Trust.

Howdy Homies, and welcome back to another week at blackhat. SO wayyyyy back in 2019/2020, when blackhat was just a wee babe, Matt, Doug and I started a millennial blues project. They wrote a few songs and I wrote a few lyrics and suddenly we were 5-ish rough songs deep into an album. Life, being what it is, made it a bit challenging to continue working on this one, but not before we had two songs nearly completed. You may have heard some of the rough takes if you’ve ever kicked it with Matt and listened to some of his projects. Well, a few months back Matt hit me up and surprised me with the news that he’d recorded the final instrument needed to complete the very first song. Instead of waiting to finish the entire album, because let’s face it this one won’t be done soon, we’ve decided to drop it as a single sometime early next year. Grab your Snuggie, your Starbucks, and some avocado toast and stay tuned for this one.
In other news, everything has been submitted for our next few releases and now we wait. Ian Seabolt’s new single Nostalgia will be dropping everywhere December 21st. Coming up after that is the TSB debut EP Thadon coming on the 1st of the New Year. I saw the cover art Troy and Blaze did for the EP and couldn’t help but giggle. It’s great. Now that the release is scheduled for Thadon, my work on that project is just about done. I can’t wait to chill for the holidays. I’m going to SLEEP…A LOT. Does that mean work stops for anyone else in the studio? No. Am I still going to be working on the blog and arranging photoshoots and other nonsense during this break? YES…but it was a nice thought right?

We didn’t have a lot of shows this week, but Matt did do a private event with One Drop Redemption last weekend and Rhey had another Tuesday Open Mind, Open Mic night at Frogee’s last night.
From Rhey: Welp last night went pretty smoothly until I realized one of the subs wasn’t working. I was blowing up poor Matt’s phone trying to get it figured out. We decided to just shut it off and work with the one we had. Started off the night with Zack Mendoza (Bacho) playing an acoustic set and I was really impressed. He’s definitely one talented vocalist. Hassiem the comedian was hilarious and it was nice to hear some good old fashioned clean comedy. He had the whole room chuckling. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Josh (Desposito) perform an acoustic set so it was nice to hear some of the songs he used to play at acoustic Tuesdays from a couple years ago when I first started going to Frogee’s. G Hippy killed it as always and we had a couple people sign up later on in the night. Sosicktheillest did a set, and then we had a couple ladies get up on stage to some impromptu karaoke which was a nice way to end the night. All in all the turnout wasn’t too bad for a weeknight and we all had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to next week’s show.

If you haven’t actually heard Josh Esposito do an acoustic set you really are missing out. I miss acoustic Tuesday’s at Frogee’s. Doug and I used to do a few songs together now and again when my paralyzing stage fright wasn’t acting up too bad. It’s the first place I heard Josh, Andrew(TDP), Johnny Savage (former TDP), and quite a few other incredibly talented people. If you want to join in on one of these upcoming Tuesday shows, stop in and sign up for a slot around 6:30pm or so and enjoy the night. Comedy, dance, art, poetry, music, and more are welcome.
Coming up in the next few weeks we don’t have many live shows booked so we will be working on other things and there won’t be so much exciting stuff to talk about, BUT I will continue trying to work out these artist spotlights I’ve been working on. I have some lined up, I just need to actually talk to these guys, get stuff written, and schedule them. They’re coming. That’s all I can remember for now loves. Happy almost-winter. See you folks next week for another bit o’ the buzz.
