Old Ladies Flirted: It was Enjoyable

11/15/23

My apologies folks.

I didn’t mean to publish a day late and a dollar short this week, but life, as it happens, got in the way. I’m a busy mom with ADHD and boy was I FEELING it this week. I will do better. Maybe I’ll even give you guys an artist spotlight next week if I can arrange one.

There was one show over this last weekend at our favorite spot up in beautiful Big Bear Lake. The name of this fine establishment is the Big Bear Bar and Grill. I’m well acquainted with this venue and some of the locals who frequent it. It’s a place where many of us have bonded over a shared love of music…and sometimes, other things (I don’t know what you were thinking but I’m referring to horseshoes and cornhole kids…). It’s also practically the home base of our friends the Loose Affiliates. I’ve even sung a song or two there in the past. You want a cheer’s vibe? Go check this place out. The food is good, the drinks are great, and the music you’ll find there is truly something special. What makes it even better is the crowd. They LOVE dancing, throwing compliments, and talking your ear off. From what I’ve gathered, this show was no different. Big Bear has some really special community spots, and Big Bear Bar and Grill is at the top of my list as a former local. Peter and company are fantastic hosts. I swear I didn’t read their motto or anything before writing any of this…I guess They’re doing their jobs very well.

Good old Homie G, aka Greg from the Loose Affiliates, aka MaDu

I had an opportunity to chat with the guitarist Doug Strange from the Loose Affiliates, and I also got a voice note with some show insights from Johnny Carnage this week! AHHHHHH!!!  By the way, if you haven’t heard either of these fella’s solo works yet you are MISSING OUT. I hear Carnage is releasing an album soon so you’ll just have to catch him live for now, but Doug has an EP on Spotify you can stream right this minute called Last Man Standing

Back to the show… I heard that everyone killed it. People got into TDP’s funky grooves enough that both Doug and Carnage relayed that the crowd was super responsive, which is always so much fun. I got to see a few video clips of folks dancing like crazy during the Twenty Dollar Prophets set. This show was over Veteran’s Day weekend and there were a few military members vacationing in Bear that happened to catch the show. They told Carnage that they were stoked to have gotten to see TDP while they were in town because they really enjoyed the show. It’s always awesome to connect with people like this as an artist. It really helps validate what we’re all doing here.  Carnage even mentioned having bought one of the veterans a drink. Honestly, it sounded like it was a good show for TDP. I’m glad they enjoyed the venue and the locals.

Doug had very similar sentiments about the show. He’s played there countless times and generally has a good time. This time around he mentioned being rather flattered because some more mature women in the audience paid him compliments after his set. Mostly, he just said the vibe was chill, but energetic and he had a nice time hanging out with the bandos.

I don’t often experience FOMO when it comes to shows, but this is a special venue for us and it was TDP’s first time playing there. It’s definitely one I wish I could’ve made it to. This blog was a little hard to write. It’s hard living so far away sometimes. It’s beautiful here, but I miss all of you crazy, wonderful people.

What have I been doing you ask? Absolutely NOTHING interesting. I have been trying to work on a custom vinyl record clock for a non-blackhat client. (Ordered for her dad for Christmas. Custom painting of his favorite old album cover.) It’s coming along nicely, but isn’t entirely relevant. I’m still working on Doug’s photoshoot edits, and forgetting to follow up with MaDu about a merch convo we had a month ago. It’s been a weird week folks, but I will be back on top of things next week. I swear. Mama tired.

Much Love My Friends!
